Personal Branding
In preparing for my future career as a Graphic Designer It would be essential to develop an appropriate logo and branding for myself as a freelance graphic designer. It would be useful to also produce a range of personal promotional materials. These should include a Business card, Letterhead and a T-shirt or hoodie design. It would be crucial to also consider my logo on a range of other merchandise and products such as leaflets, flyers and posters that may promote my services in the future. My personal logo and branding is not aimed at any ages whatsoever, instead it is aimed at any potential clients I may work with in the near future. I wanted to different logos, one being a Lettermark (monogram) and a Lettermark; these would also be used together as a combination mark which will be used on my website etc. I wanted to use the colour black for my logo as it is a formal and is a prestigious colour. I originally had planned to use the colour #310198 as this is my birthdate, so it would make the logo a lot more personal, however after a few revisions I decided that in the long term it wouldn’t make the logo timeless. The main concept for my logo design and branding was to have two separate logos, one that’s a Lettermark and the second being a wordmark. I wanted my logo to be personal, using either the initials “JDH” and “JH”. I also considered using the same colour code as my birthdate which is #310198 to make this even more personal, but this was scrapped as the colour didn’t look professional. After doing some research into logo design and branding, I decided to go in the direction of making a Lettermark for my main logo. A Lettermark is a symbol that uses the initials or the person or brands first letter, I decided to use this type of logo as I felt on its own a wordmark was too plain and not creative, also my full name is a little too long. I first started drawing ideas based on just “JH” then I moved on to ideas for “JDH” and I came up with a five column and row design that acts as a monogram of the initials “JDH”. I used the font Axis Bold for my Wordmark, I felt that this font fit perfectly with the design of my logo as this font is simple and not over complicated similar to my logo.
